If so, what do you think of it? I went by K-mart to see what they restocked, and they put the price tag on Gamecubes at $150

I was thinking of buying a black one and Animal Crossing (look this game up, it seems like fun to me)

For the same price you can get X-box. Which is way better.

I dislike X box's controller

and what's better isn't revelant because each system is fundamentally different and offers different games for different gamers. The gaming industry is so diverse that we can pick what we want to play.

That's the beauty of it, my narrow minded friend.

Besides, the Nintendo exclusives will be a blast to play once Metroid Prime rolls in

Yeah, and Nintendo has more games for the Cube.

Is it just me or are there like hardly any good games, games period, for any of this generation of systems as compared to before?????

rice-fighter

True dat. Whatever happened to Nintendo having like 600 titles. Or Super Nintendo owning everyone.

And Z28, the X-Box does have a new smaller controller. But if you want the Cube go for it. $150 never hurt anyone. And if you don't like it you can always sell it.

CamaroZ28

glad you feel that way

and YES SUNRIE

i'm thinking the SAME GODDAMN THING!!!!!

i've been playing video games for the last 15 years (i'm 20) and I've noticed this generation doesn't have as many high quality games as the SNES generation, but what it DOES have surpasses anything before by far and wide

GTA 3
THPS 3
Devil May Cry
FFX

and so forth

Go with the Gamecube. My reason: Other than the fact that I own every Nintendo console and will be exclusively a Nintendo man all my life, Microsoft is an evil company. I'm not one of those close-minded people who think that the system I own is the greatest system you can buy. You wouldn't be dissapointed with a PS2, but I prefer the Gamecube because the controller design is not as hard on your hands. Gamecube is going to have some pretty sweet titles coming out by the end of the year, which will help it's sales. The Gamecube kind of sucked at first because of the terrible selection of games for it. Up untill June, the games were really lame and they were aimed more towards 6 year olds. With the coming of the game Eternal Darkness, all of that changed. Games I suggest: Super Mario Sunshine, 007: Agent Under Fire, Rogue Leader, The Simpsons Road Rage, and Eternal Darkness. Games I'd stay away from: Wrestlemania X8 (major dissapointment if you're used to the control and create-a-wrestler of No Mercy), and Resident Evil (an absolute waste of money). If you're really into Resident Evil, buy Eternal Darkness instead. The camera angles move with you and aren't put in stupid places, the control is worlds better, and the story line is much more superior. The evilness in the game isn't cheesy either.

ff7 and goldeneye were the best games ever.

:stupid: two of them, yes, most definitely.

But IMHO . . . FFX >>>> all other FF's

I'd have to say my all time favorite game would be Metroid for NES.
:worship:
I can't get over the great playability of the classics. Those of you who sold or destroyed your NES are fools. But, I understand if you were just a little kid.

CamaroZ28

it's called an emulator

their tag line is

"We revive the classics"

I can play that game at any time.

Laptop + 1000 ROMS + Gamepad = Bliss.

I seem to have misled you. I still own my NES and it still works. My Metroid cartridge is rather used, so it takes some coaxing to get all of the pins to contact each other firmly. But it works. Besides, I have heard that the control for the emulators is absolutely terrible.

Not if you get a gamepad and program it right.

And its not so bad using a keyboard... so long as you get the right button configuration.

64GP, the peril of being closeminded is how you get burned by not allowing for exceptions, and YOU, my erstwhile friend, have a lot to learn

I was referring to keyboard control. Not everyone owns a gamepad, you know. But nevertheless, you are correct. However, I still prefer the real thing. Just a sentimental quirk, I suppose.

The best thing about emulators is you don't have to blow into the game to get it to work. Or get the edge of the game right on the lip of the NES before you push it down. Ahhh, those were the days.

Dodgeboy
10-09-2002, 12:23 PM
Anyone know why you had to blow into the games in the foirst place? I suspect it's a console thing, not a game thing. For example, my copy of Rad Racer doesn't work for shit in my NES. But put the same copy in my girl's NES, and it works like a charm. I think her's is a bit newer and didn't get played nearly as much as mine.

I always thought it was to get dust outa em

rice-fighter
10-09-2002, 12:46 PM
That's what I thought. If you didn't do it the game appeared glitchy.

brokenmachines_e2
10-09-2002, 01:10 PM
I thought it was to get the dust out and to put a tiny bit of moisture on the rather large contacts. And who the fuck figured it out anyways? =D

A pretty handy trick that my friend showed me involves a Q-tip. Take the Q-tip and rub the tip of it over the contacts (external only!). Repeat the process with clean ones until the clean Q-tips stop getting dirty. Repeat for the reverse side. This technique works wonders! I do it for all of my cartridge systems. It made a world of difference with my Gameshark Pro for Nintendo 64. I cleaned the contacts and it wouldn't lock up anymore and it would work every time I turned on the system. What will surprise you is that if you clean the contacts and then clean them again in ,say, a month or so, you will be really shocked at how quickly they get dirty again. Of course, the proper way to do it is to use a cleaning kit, but I haven't been able to find any as of late. My friend told me that a Q-tip will give you the same results, only you're not using solvent. Oh, and one more thing- after you're done cleaning it, remove any strands that may have gotten snagged on the board. They probably won't cause any damage, but I do it anyways.

Lets think about it for a minute....

NES-how much programming could it have taken to make Mario Bros or duck hunt? I mean really.

Gamecube-FAR more advanced system. It takes time to make these more complicated 3d first-person games. And when the resulting game is crap, all that time was wasted.

Best game(s) ever? Easy---> Medal of Honor, baby!!!:flame: :gun: :flamed:

So what exactly are you trying to say? The obvious? Of course Gamecube is far more advanced than the NES, you jackass! It only came out like 17 years after the NES. I think they should have a Gamecube disk that has several of the NES classics on it. That would be too sweet.

I'll prolly buy Star Wars next and wait for Metroid Prime, Zelda, Golden Sun, the new FF game and Phantasy Star Online!

I have nothing but good to say about my X-Box. I was a Nintendo man for years, I allways hated Sony, and never like Sega. WHen my friends where all drooling over their PSXs because it was on a CD and they could play stupid ass games like Final Fantasy *I'm sorry, I just hate RPGs*, I was showing them the merits of no loading time and better graphics on any sports game vs. the PSX. They of course went out and bought a PS2 even though I told them the GC was going to be the best thing. Then I heard about X-Box... eh I'll get a GC. I played the XB once and fell in love. I myself like the original controller... I've got fairly large hands. I'm sure the Controller-S would be better, but I don;t feel like wasting the extra money.

The only thing that kind of pisses me off about the XB is all the good games either keep getting pushed back, or the companies kiss Sony's ass and refuse to release them.

I do agree that there is a lack of super great games though... certin geners are better though. Like Sports games. I used to be limited to NBA Live or Kobe Bryant Courtside. Now look at NBA 2k3... it is one of the best basketball games ever! And I've heard nothing bad about College Basketball 2k3 either... I was gonna get it instead of NBA 2k3 but they pushed the release back.

And then there are games like Splinter Cell... that will be must have! I think it's just taking longer for the really great games to come out for this gen. Companies are leaving the extinct PS2 and spending more time developing their best stuff for the GC and XB now and then just releasing a crappy version for the PS2.

My friend has a disk like that for his dreamcast, but instead of just the classics, it contains nearly every game that was ever made for it. I own an Xbox, and it kicks ass. I spend at least an hour or two every day playing it. then again, i just got it, so i will probably start playing less as time goes on. Oh, and one thing that may or may not be important, is the Gamecube has no DVD capability.

i have 3 DVD players, if you include the PS2, so it's not an issue.

I wouldn't buy a video game system just cause it plays mad tyte DVD's. I buy for the GAMES, no other friggin reason.

Next up, Rogue Leader, as far as I know.

For a console, I would need a bigger tv.. And while at it, I shouldn't get any smaller than 32" widescreen, which is at least 800bucks. So that = not good.

I'll stick with my pc...

Although I would love to play the games on the console too... :(

Edit: Let me remind you, that we have a 14" tv... :p My damn monitor is bigger than that. (17")

Hey Mazdarx, it depends. After you get a bit tired with the games you have you'll start to slump off. But if you suddenly start playing one of them, or get a new game you'll start playing it like crazy agian!

A few weeks ago I played RalliSport again for the first time in about a month and played it for an hour then several more times that week untill I got pissed because I couldn't win this one race (yes I'm a sore looser ;)). Now I've got NBA 2k3 and I play it for over an hour everday! I LOVE the revamped franchise mode... any sports fans looking for a good game, pick it up!

I SSSSSSOOOOOOOOO want Hitman 2, Operation: Desert Storm, Splinter Cell, 007: Nightfire, NCAA College Basketball 2k3 , Metal Gear Solid, Gunmetal, and maybe Phantom Crash. Some of these don't come out untill the begining of Janurary or a little later... but all in all it's gonna be a busy Christmass season from my Xbox!!!! :D
